Well said! Having been born in 1946, I certainly understand the risks, and the increased danger for lesbians over gay men. I am not much of a holiday celebrator (every single day I am alive is gay pride day), but I understand how important visibility is. I remember being told that research into gay issues would ruin my academic career, and instead, it helped to define it. At the present moment there are so many oppressed groups that at least in the U. S., there is often competition for urgency of attention. Narrow-mindedness always sides with quest for power and control, as we see in the Trump regime. Live and let live! Love over hate!
Great article, Evelyne. Thank you for reminding the world why we still need the pride, because not everone enjoys the same rights as others. We are still being discriminated and in 65 countries even penalized, just for being ourselves. And it seems to be getting worse.
Let's not give up hope and that one day, the world will be as one.
I dream of a world where everyone just accepts others the way they are. But I realize that doesn’t get us there. Information, education, activism, laws, and more is needed to make the change. And challenges are only increasing this decade. Thank you for your timely article.
What Penny said.
Happy pride month 🌈
Thanks Edith.
