Did no one call him out for being racist? Diversity isn't a problem, racism is.

Well, everyone there agreed with him!

I only realized what he was actually saying a bit later. I can't remember specifically but maybe the moderator moved on quickly. If I felt like rewatching the entire thing, I would just to find out, but I was annoyed pretty much all the way though that one. Happy to share a link if you like.

I'm one of those people who loves diversity. Every culture has different ways of seeing things, and it's so interesting to learn from people of different backgrounds. And people are people. If you can connect with them, that's the main thing. And I adore the Swiss friends I've made.

I love learning about different cultures. Some of it I'll like some of it I might not, but it's fascinating either way. I also love that you have Swiss friends.

Not a clue as to why comments reappeared! Had sent you email! Think I’m on to the issue. Students at multiple universities specifically Columbia but nationwide are intimidating Jewish students to the extent that many are going home for safety. Peaceful protests but threats outside galore. I now know I will never understand the Israeli/ Gaza situation , the history is much too complex and I don’t especially want to invest the time in learning a millennium of hate on both sides. I am 💔💔💔 for the dead babies, civilians, sexually mutilated women, soldiers, members of the press trying to report kidnapped, killed, etc. Impression is this particular ongoing debacle can be laid at the head of Netanyahu who will continue in his genocide until…..but there is nothing I can do from my sofa. I do not understand why we continue to provide arms but I am not privy to CLASSIFIED DOCUMENTS OR INTELLIGENCE. So must let President Biden and his extensive experience lead the way. Nice to see these back. 😘

Well, if this was a rant, I learned a great deal. Switzerland apparently welcomes visitors with passports because I’ve been there, several cities, Lausanne for the most days. But not immigrants? Did I understand correctly? You mentioned foreign nationals. Not sure of your definition. Can people choose to immigrate and become Swiss citizens?

I understand the need to keep your nation out of various conflicts that have nothing to do with you. Since the USA was colonized and our actual deplorable history of taking lands from indigenous peoples, killing them, and then bringing in kidnapped slaves for work ie profit, we are genuinely despicable historically speaking. And that history was hidden from my baby boomer post WW2 generation until our recent “woke” years. As a linguist, I’d love to hear you rant on such a term. Some of us are looking in the rear view mirror in horror and trying to make things “diverse “ “equitable” and “inclusive.” The news of protests across college campuses may not have reached you. What a mess we are embroiled in now. It will be years if and when the kinks are worked into a society livable by all. Seems the Uber wealthy Capitalists have been trying to take control of the country for years and are now doing it openly in Project 2025 a disgusting document available on google describing a move to Christo Nationalist Fascism. So if the miserable excuse for a person, Donald Trump survives his now 88 Federal indictments and trials a plenty, we will be history. But the fight is on big time and breakthroughs by the compassionate President Biden are peeking into the top polling. Just these last days. Anyway, you can see my attraction to your lovely calm little in size nation on your own and loving one another. Great post! Keep them coming! 😘

Immigrants welcome by most. We do have the same narrative going as you guys do in the US. They are stealing our jobs etc. Easiest way to move here is to have a job all lined up. Now for EU citizens it’s easier than for others but can still be a lengthy process.

Foreign nationals: people who don’t have a Swiss passport. In my example Swiss residents with non-Swiss citizenship. Becoming Swiss takes quite a bit of time but it is possible. Some people (especially from EU member states) choose not to become Swiss others can’t wait to.

Yes, I realized during my walk along the beach yesterday that I forgot to say “well, if you slaughter your own indigenous people, you can’t go complaining about other countries still being full of theirs”. What an asshat.

I don’t think I have a rant on the word “woke”. I’ve lost track of what it means now. It’s used so much that it has lost all meaning. Just checked the urban dictionary: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Woke . I was on board with the first definition “initially the meaning of this term was when an individual become more aware of the social injustice” and then it got weird.

Initial definition reasonable, now thrown around to be obscure?
