I can’t believe I forgot to mention the “apple incident” in my August 1 thoughts. Thanks to Martin for reminding me. Yes, the apple incident is quite a story. A story told by Friedrich von Schiller. I kind of like it. I mean shooting an apple off your child’s head with a crossbow, that’s next level cool. Also insane of course.
As I mentioned it’s just a story. William Tell was a real person, most of the rest is made up. Nobody is really making sure people know that. Kind of like other books or stories. I don’t want to go into a “who even wrote the bible” rant, but there’s that.
Is my book finished? Well, what can I say. Sort of, kind of – almost. I mean it’s all in one file now. There’s a table of contents and everything. I just need a kick ass introduction. I think I’ll be able to send it off to a couple of friends on Monday or Tuesday. We’ll see. And then I just need to work on the cover. I have a mental image of what it should look like. I’m going to use one of my own pictures. One I took in April. I know the color of the title – red, in case you were wondering. And I also know what picture of myself to use for the “about the author” section. I feel like I’ve told you that before 😊.
Then there is the making some changes, possible corrections and finally reading the small print on Amazon. That could cause a delay. I also need to come up with a price. It’ll be around $10, possibly $12 if there are no rules on pricing. Oh, just had an idea. I could make it $12.91 – it’s Switzerland’s birth year. I love that. Thanks for being here for that thought process. Sometimes I love my brain.
And guess who now has 30 pictures – and yes, it was exactly 30 – hanging on her walls. That was quite a task. And to be completely honest four are not yet up on a wall. I got an exposed concrete wall and the nails I’d bought were not strong enough for that one. Here’s one wall. I think it looks pretty awesome.
Have you watched any of the Olympics? I’m obsessed with women’s rugby. I would definitely start questioning my sexual orientation if I hadn’t done that already. And Ilona Maher calling out social media trolls – I love it.
Then there is the question of canoe vs. kayak. Now, I’d love to try kayaking. It looks so intense and like something I might thoroughly enjoy, but – and it’s a big BUT – I could never be on a kayak where you can’t get out quickly. Like where you’re strapped in, and the hole is covered. That’s never gonna happen. And then there’s a canoe which seems a bit boring, and you only have like one paddle and not a cool double-sided one. As you can tell, I have zero water sports vocabulary. So, what I want is a kayak with a kind of open top where you can jump out if you need to and that double paddle thing. That would totally be me.
I actually just found one. So, what I need now is money to buy it and a way to transport it to a body of water that is safe to be on. Rivers around here aren’t really the safest because of all the hydro power plants. I will also need a swim vest. I’m a decent swimmer, but open water or rivers – that’s a different beast. So, plans for a new hobby made.
Back to say: it’s called a two-bladed paddle.
And it looks like there is still a chance to make it to the Olympics. I mean there are certain sports where age really doesn’t matter. Something to think about. They would need to change the Swiss National Anthem for me to ever considered standing on top of a podium, though. I mean what’s God got to do with anything?
The Swiss are getting a lot of “chocolate medals” – that’s what the Swiss French commentators call 4th place. While I love the term, calling it that is kind of asking for it, isn’t it.
I leave you with a picture from my hike early Monday morning. If you want to know more about it. I made a YT video. You can watch that here.
Have a lovely, not too hot Sunday everyone. And to quote the title of a book I bought yesterday “Eat that frog!”
Hugs all around.
Kayaking is a fantastic way to explore a range of environments. Many places have active and supportive paddling communities. Highly recommended with so many opportunities for travel and meeting new people.
Your hung paintings are just so lovely! What talent! Of course, we all know. I’d love kayaking but my swimming skills were always lacking…..now that I remember, I was never very good at sports. Maybe tennis in high school. The principal was a fan and taught a special class instead of regular physical education which I hated. Chocolates at the Olympics? They are a bit left in political speak I noticed while our new freshly minted presidential candidate, Vice President Kamala Harris is on a high now; selecting her Vice president this weekend. Having difficulty diverting attention from that process, she’s looking at a Governor Shapiro as a possibility but he’s Jewish; I think Jews are “very fine people “ 😱 please don’t let me mimic the former guy who calls everyone especially autocrats by that term. But seriously, with the mid East blowing up I think the timing is wrong for another first in our election. We already have a biracial woman who requires a vanilla man to balance the ticket in a manner of speaking but a Jew first would be a bridge too far now I believe. Pardon my butting into your content; not clear headed until the decision is made and news about war clarified. As if my thoughts influence anything…..not in this moment of Substack blowing up with political punditry. Minds more educated and influential than mine. I’m just a voter in a RED STATE which makes my vote useless too. Ahhh….thats it! LOSS OF CONTROL IN MY LIFE. Cannot get to a therapist and my caretaker is a pastor who gives me sermons not therapy. (Don’t let on that I don’t think God has much to do with any of this except in the minds of the Christian Nationalists Fascists on the other team.) It is a lovely Sunday but time will not slow down at all until Tuesday when the vice Presidential candidate will be announced. And you are so serene in that Swiss Alps venue that I love so much. I need chocolate 🍫 maybe a shot of liquor 🥃 and cat hugs 😽😽so I can leave your page in peace. I do love your Sunday posts! Always. Excuse TMI. Please. I’ll do better next week when decisions are made, right or left, wrong bone headed or whatever. Love you, dear friend. Keep that book moving. Your energy is awesome to read about. Hugs!🤗
