Physics and meditation
Something to consider if meditating is not helping you de-stress
Let’s start by defining the equilibrium we are seeking – or some of us are. You know that state in which we feel relaxed and balanced. If we put that in the middle and we think about what’s at opposite ends of that scale, we might put fun and stress. In order for us to feel relaxed, there need to be equal amounts of fun and stress in our lives. I hope you’re with me so far.
If we look at this in terms of physics, even 24 hours of meditation, extra sleep, trying to relax is not going to change anything. You can’t bring the stress level back to a balanced state by piling onto the middle of the scale. Nothing is going to change. You might even get more stressed because your meditation doesn’t work and because however much you try to sleep more and relax – things don’t change.
So, to counterbalance the stress, do something fun. Something that puts you in a state of flow. You need to go to the opposite end of the spectrum. I called it “fun” above because it seemed closest to the opposite of stressful/stressed - especially since relaxed is the balanced stated we’re striving for. It’s anything that you enjoy doing.
Now, before you say “but I enjoy meditating” remember that I wrote this for people who don’t find meditation helpful. I wrote this for people who can related to physics better than to the practice of meditation. And I wrote it for people who are tired of others telling them to try and relax and meditate when they are stressed.
Time to put more fun back in your life. Give it a go. You might be surprised.
Just something that popped into my head and that I wanted to share. Something to consider. Have a lovely day everybody.
I’m working or rather trying that today! Watching videos of animals (chimpanzees and Jane Goodall) with my dear furry friends in my lap. No thought of our chaos in politics especially which triggers me every other day. Not this one. I love your sketches; very clear. I’d walk in the Alps if I could but that’s a virtual trip for another day. Thank you for this. Spot on. (Craving popcorn 🍿 but have none, another time.) 😘
